Governance Structure

FIMMA operates under a democratic governance structure with a Board of Directors elected by member federations. The board is responsible for strategic direction, policy development, and ensuring the federation fulfills its mission to develop and promote amateur MMA globally.

Continental representatives ensure that the interests of all regions — Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas — are represented at the highest level of decision-making.

What is FIMMA

The Federation of International Mixed Martial Arts (FIMMA) is the international governing body dedicated to the development, regulation, and global promotion of
amateur mixed martial arts. Established to provide a unified and responsible framework for the sport, FIMMA works with national federations, continental bodies,
and sporting institutions to ensure that mixed martial arts evolves in a structured, safe, and athlete-centered environment.

FIMMA is built on the strong foundation established by the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA), whose pioneering work in governance, athlete development, and regional collaboration has significantly advanced the sport across Asia. Building upon this legacy, FIMMA seeks to extend these standards and opportunities to the global stage through a coordinated international structure.

The federation’s progress is reflected in the growing recognition of mixed martial arts within major multi-sport events. In addition to its inclusion in the Asian Youth Games Bahrain 2025 and the 2025 Southeast Asian Games Thailand, mixed martial arts has been confirmed as a medal sport at the 20th Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in September 2026 and the 6th Riyadh Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in December 2026. These milestones demonstrate the sport’s rapid institutional
development and its growing acceptance within the international sporting movement.

Guided by the principles of integrity, athlete welfare, and fair competition, FIMMA is committed to strengthening the global MMA ecosystem. Through standardized rules, education programs, and internationally sanctioned competitions, the federation aims to provide clear pathways for athletes, coaches, and officials while promoting mixed martial arts as a modern, inclusive, and responsibly governed sport worldwide.
